The 2005 International Festival of the Sea

The fifth International Festival of the Sea will take place in Portsmouth from June 30th to July 3rd will be one of the most eclectic and prestigious events to take place this summer. The Festival, spread over 160 acres is set to attract a quarter of a million people to HM Naval Base, Portsmouth for a superb day out. A daily 12 hour programme of great entertainment, international cuisine, historical reenactments and the chance to see (and board) the most spectacular Festival fleet ever assembled make this an event with something for everyone.

From majestic tall ships that have never been seen in the UK before to internationally renowned war ships, traditional and working vessels, a diverse range of ships will add to the colour, vibrancy and unique atmosphere of the Festival. From the enormous HMS Illustrious at 209m to the Bumble Bee, a Solent Scow which measures only 3.7m long, with vessels involved in the Dunkirk rescue there will be a ship to capture everyone’s imagination. History brought to life The Historic dockyard will recreate the year 1805, with over 300 actors recreating the scene when Nelson’s navy prepared for the battle of Trafalgar, featuring Bum Boats transporting goods, men and officers and trade bartering between boat and ship.
